SP/Sculpture II/III Fall 2024

 The process was both challenging and rewarding. One of the hardest parts was tracing the exact measurements and cutting all the wooden pieces perfectly straight, it required a lot of precision and patience. Assembling everything was also tricky, as getting the pieces to fit together seamlessly took some effort. What I enjoyed the most, though, was painting it and adding the final details. It was so much fun to bring the giraffe to life with color and texture. I'm really happy with how it turned out in the end. For the ambiguous display aspect, I wanted to create the illusion that the giraffe was emerging from the wall, adding a playful and dynamic element to the piece.

 Raven Halfmoon Raven Halfmoo n   is from Norman, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Arkansas where she earned a double Bachelors Degree in ceramics/painting and cultural anthropology. Her work has been featured in multiple exhibitions throughout the U.S. as well as internationally Her works are torso-scaled and colossal-sized stoneware, bronze and stone sculptures, with some soaring up to twelve feet and weighing over eight hundred pounds. His mother turns the dinning room into a 24 hour sick ward. Andy spends most his days filling in coloring books, cutting out paper dolls, making collages out of pictures cut from movie magazines and listening to the new family radio.  What a fascinating thing! Andy could not attend regular school so his mother provided a type of art school for him.  Artist Presentation    Leonora Carrington  Self Portrait Born 1917 in England, Carrington came from a wealthy upper class family. She was expelled from mutliple schools as a child due to her rebellious nature. Eventually her parents put her in a school for the arts and Carrington fell in love with Surrealism.  In the late 1930s, 19 year old Carrington met German surrealist Max Ernst who was 45 at the time. They had an affair and ended up collaborating and supporting each other's works. Ernst was arrested first by the French then by the Nazis and fled to America. Carrington was put into an asylum for her anxiety and delusions where she endured cruel medical treatments and other abuse by staff. She escaped to Mexico where she lived for the rest of her life, being a citizen.  Carrington was bold and loud about shedding traditional views of women being only a muse for a male artist when they can be artists themselves.
